Swing into the 40s

Hey guys and dolls!

This past Saturday I attended a fundraiser held at our local fort called "Swinging into the 40s". I have never tried swing dancing nor have I ever attended an event that allowed me to interact with those who share the same passions I do, so this was a new experience for me. To say I had an amazing time is an understatement, I'm normally a very shy and reserved person, but the minute the live swing band started playing I was having the time of my life. From this experience though, I learned I have two left feet and no coordination. My boyfriend/dance partner helped me though and we had the time of our lives.

When we were not on the dance floor, we where down in what I believe to be the basement of the officers' club. Down in the basement they had food and beverages that you would have if you lived during that time period, along with reprints of newspapers showing major events going on during that time. There were also board games and other activities going on, so there was always something to do.
All the people that attended were quite the characters, and they made me feel as if I was home.

I highly recommend that everyone should at least attend one event such as the one I went to. I can promise you.

Here are a few photos that were taken by my boyfriend and also the photographer that was at the event.
Can we just appreciate the fact that I was actually able to do victory rolls?
That was my entire outfit for the night. Not bad for vintage on the fly. ;)

Of course my Brian had to ruin a perfectly good photo.
Brian had to teach me how to dance since I could not keep up.

First Post for The Retro Years!

Hello guys and dolls!
It's Kathleen here, and with The Retro Years I am very excited to venture into this blog, and meet fellow enthusiast. ;)
I would like to use our first post to talk about how this blog came to be, and do not worry my other posts will be a lot better as I get use to this so please stick around!
This blog began as a school assignment, and I decided to turn it into something so much more.
I live in an area where vintage is not very common, and it is like searching for a needle in a haystack when it comes to finding others with similar interests.
So I decided to turn to blogging hopes that my blog would help connect me with fellow vintage enthusiast.
I would like for this blog to focus on many aspects of the vintage community, and welcome those who are just getting started.
I'm very excited about this crazy journey that I am about to undertake and I hope you all are along for the ride.
Don't forget The Retro Years also has a Pinterest and Instagram
